A joint inversion-segmentation approach to assisted seismic interpretation

چکیده

Structural seismic interpretation and quantitative characterization are historically intertwined processes. The latter provides estimates of properties the subsurface which can be used to aid structural alongside original data a number other attributes. In this work, we redefine process as inverse problem tries jointly estimate (i.e., acoustic impedance) piece-wise segmented representation based on user-defined macro-classes. By inverting for quantities simultaneously, inversion is primed with prior knowledge about regions interest, whilst at same time it constrains belief actual measurements. As proposed functional separable in two quantities, these optimized an alternating fashion, where each subproblem solved using Primal-Dual algorithm. Subsequently, class input workflow aims extract perimeter detected shapes produce unique horizons. effectiveness method illustrated through numerical examples synthetic field datasets.

Assisted Seismic Matching: Joint Inversion of Seismic, Rock Physics and Basin Modeling

In this study, we apply advanced numerical optimization techniques to extend the work of Imhof and Sharma (2005, 2006) to integrate geological and geophysical data and infer the sedimentary parameters that produce a match to seismic data. In particular, we seek to match not just event timing (phase) but also reflection strength (amplitude). This inverse problem of quantitatively matching presen...

Interpretation of fractures and joint inversion using multicomponent seismic data — Marcellus Shale example

Evaluating and exploiting unconventional complex oil and gas reservoirs such as the Marcellus Shale gas reservoirs within the Appalachian Basin in Pennsylvania, USA, have gained considerable interest in recent years. Technologies such as conventional 3D seismic, horizontal drilling, and hydraulic fracturing have been at the forefront of the effort to exploit these resources. Recently, multicomp...

Seismic interpretation using global image segmentation

An important step in seismic interpretation is segmentation of a seismic image into structural and stratigraphic geologic units. Today, we often perform this segmentation using a simple process. We first automatically track seismic events to locate horizons and faults that correspond to the boundaries of geologic units. We then glue those boundaries together to obtain a geologic model. This pro...

Joint segmentation and image interpretation

Interpreting images is a diicult task to automate. Image interpretation essentially consists of both low level and high level vision tasks. In this paper, we develop a joint scheme for segmentation and image interpretation in a multiresolution framework, where seg-mentation (low level) and interpretation (high level) in-terleave. The idea being that the interpretation block should be able to gu...

A closer look at rock physics models and their assisted interpretation in seismic exploration

Subsurface rocks and their fluid content along with their architecture affect reflected seismic waves through variations in their travel time, reflection amplitude, and phase within the field of exploration seismology. The combined effects of these factors make subsurface interpretation by using reflection waves very difficult. Therefore, assistance from other subsurface disciplines is needed i...
